Isnt live streaming still hidden on another tab all the way to the bottom... I practically hate streaming on YT.

I can only suggest moving on. I'm here explicitly for convenience. I have my subscriptions and exclusively watch them and rarely related content with watch history disabled to prevent sub feed videos getting hidden. I have shorts blocked via an addon. I do use YTMusic, but lately I'm tempted to go back to ripping mp3s off YT and having locally stored music again. But there's Floatplane and Nebula as exceptionally good options. I am getting close to shifting to those platforms for my edutainment content.

I saerched once and I all got was shorts.

It's stuff like this that keeps me on Twitch despite all the problems and negative changes they've implemented over there. I thought of your channel and actively had to search for it to find you again. The stuff I want to see isn't showing up on my feed and my feed isn't everything I subscribed to anymore. this hurts.

You mentioned the pay is garbage through shorts, which may be the root of the situation. If they pay worse than long form content, YT keeps more money, so they're pushing the bigger profit center for them.

I saw some stats on how many youtube creators there are. It was billions and more people than live in the US. Uploading a youtube video is like throwing a pebble in the ocean. I through one yesterday. I still think it kinda special. I can do that. I'm just an old man with some cameras.

The worst part about this is that there is no actual alternative platform we can run to.

Your reviews & tutorials have allowed me to make more informed decisions that ultimately has helped me improve in my own journey as a fellow content creator . THANK YOU! What I wanted to ask about, purely out of curiosity, is in regards to your 4:3 aspect ratio: has it been a positive change for your channel statistically or not? Why I ask is that due to the 4:3, the right side of my screen on the 'All' tab has a very random mix of other stuff I watch, I'm grateful for the 2nd Tab 'From EposVox' but it's still a click away - I gladly click and browse you're other videos I've missed but I wish it was the default 1st Tab. Of course most people upload in 16:9 so what to watch next requires scrolling down. Like I said, I was just wondering if the 4:3 ratio and the what to watch next section requiring no scrolling, helped you or not? It would be interesting to know. Thanks for everything you do and wishing you continued success. PS: I love the 4:3 in part because almost nobody else is doing it. I feel like it makes your content stands out among the rest.

UA-cam, as a brand empire, could easily release a separate “UA-cam Shorts” app. Instead, they opt for infringing on the experience of everyone else. It’s sad.

As someone who watches youtube A lot and is interested about content creation side of things thanks for making this video. I've also noticed that shorts are popping everywhere and it's sometimes recommenced for creators/streamers toi make shorts for discoverability which I'm now anxious of that it too has made to be useless if peopple that watch shorts don't ever go see the longer content. As a viewer too - I usually wanna see or listen videos with more of a story/information explained properly and shorts don't really do it for me but you sometimes still end up seeing some because of curiosity. Still maybe not all is lost since I got recomended to this video on my front page.

I hate shorts. Not all shorts, to be fair, but it is absolutely stupid that they loop. As soon as I figured out that YT was wasting several seconds of my time, and I saw that there's a way to turn them off for 30 days, I just do that. I'm becoming blind to any shorts I see - waste of time.

Searches on UA-cam have become as effective as they are on Google, unsurprisingly. I find myself using DuckDuckGo not only for internet searches, but for watching UA-cam videos now. On Firefox, I have several (yes, SEVERAL) extensions installed SOLELY to improve my UA-cam experience with add-ons that should've been a part of this platform a million years ago, but also to remove recommendations altogether, as well as sponsors, ads, etc. but it doesn't change the fact that its creators HAVE to make videos accordingly to the new "meta" in order to have any viewership and revenue. I hate it. This platform has become unwelcoming to both its userbase and its creators. I barely enjoy watching content there anymore.

It’s also quite insidious, because it takes so many more views to actually try to make money off of shorts, which gives them the engagement farming, but also allows them to keep more of the money on the platform while paying the creators next to nothing in comparison to the ceiling that is on longer form videos. It is a race to the bottom one that they’re happy to have where they can actually try to profit more instead of coming up with a viable solution for everyone involved and the work of those who help to create the platform as it stands today, he just seems that the writing is on the wall for every corporation, because at the end of the day, almost all of them lack creativity when it comes to how to actually make money outside of extracting from those who give said companies value that It holds

Yeah it’s gotten pretty irritating, I sub to idk how many channels, and like the only thing UA-cam ever feeds my page is Louis rossman complaining/news, and then just like other shit that I don’t follow at all just complaining about whatever it is for todays drama

I stopped paying for premium because I could feel the experience becoming worse and worse over time. I absolutely despise this idea that every app is becoming a worse version of tiktok now, and what happens is that I just give up and use UA-cam way less than I used to.

Totally agree with you. I hate when UA-cam trying to be Meta, pushing unrelated contents and hindering your subscribed channels.

Great video, all things that need to be said. Google's in trouble and scrambling to keep up. AI-based LLMs and generative AI are coming to steal traditional Search Engine's lunch money. They serve up answers rather than searches. Traditional Google searches provide a ton of ads per search, all of which companies are bidding a lot of money on. The average person refines their search multiple times before landing on their answer or solution. It's estimated that 25% or more search volume's going to disappear in the next few years. Which is a big hit to Google's primary source of income. Even Google's getting behind this, rolling out an answer box that'll dominate the SERPs. Not really sure what their goal is with shoving Shorts in our faces everywhere, other than to double down on creating the "UA-cam Black Hole". People mindlessly and infinitely watching video after video, eventually being served with more and more ads. I'm also curious if it's a play to feed their AI with more and more human-created content so it can eventually churn out its own. It'd be smarter for them to embrace the creators and give them the tools they need to create compelling content to keep people coming back.

Its been so sad to watch this happen.. UA-cam is becoming the exact thing most of us were trying to get away from when we first discovered amazing creators like yourself. Now they are just another Main Stream Media outlet pushing the same crap, agenda driven and corporate

Adapt or die apparently - the only valid choices for content creators now are boobie thumbnails, political/cultural rage-bait, or hyperstimulating eye-drugs for preschoolers. Sigh.

I stopped watching your content a while back but I promise you if you create more videos discussing detailed feature changes like this I will watch every day. Thanks for such a detailed discussion.

I have got a 24” Hisense roku tv and I want to play Svr 2006 but do I need a converter or upscaler since it’s a small modern oled tv? Because I want to play full widescreen that is why.

As a viewer ive noticed how bad youtube has got. If it wasnt for my sub box still showing me all the creators i like i wouldnt you the site nearly as much because of how much garbage youtube is hell bent on shoving in my face. I just want to see videos in my niche and occasionally something tangentially related and a useful search tool to find things when im actively looking for something. Everything else could go away and id be happy.

I'd say the message from YT is quite obvious at this point and has been fairly consistent for a while now - they're not interested in big(ish) creators and career UA-camrs and all that. People have this idea that YT is supposed to be their friend and support them in making a career out of making videos, but it has always been somewhat naive and for quite some time now, you could say it is just plain wrong and misguided. For every channel that goes away, ten new ones pop up. They couldn't care less. They don't care about people making a living here or "building a channel" or a brand or whatever. They're not your (that's plural "your") friend or even a business partner. If your channel dies, they don't really lose all that much in a grand scheme of things, people will still be uploading ridiculous amounts of videos every minute of every hour of every day.

After when I upgrade my streaming system to something a bit more modern, the latest 4k60 Pro (I guess it would be considered Mk. III, don't know what happen to that bit in the naming scheme) is something I'm gonna get. Lower latency is always good.

What would say your morale rating is for UA-cam currently? For me, it hurts a lot. I'm like at a 2 if the scale is from 1 to 10. Unrelatedly, I could say the same thing about Twitch, but Twitch is more like a 4 to me, but still not enough for me to return. It's funny that my Dad was still trying to push me to continue making content that's worth viewing, but he doesn't seem to see or understand what's going on. Morale is just shot for me. I don't want to do this until it gets better.

Glad to see I'm not loosing my mind. I've definitely noticed when trying to lookup a DIY video or anything on a pretty specific topic, the quality of the search results haven't been nearly as good as they use to be.

I just use youtube as a playback platform for my crap. I don't monetize because I do that elsewhere and don't care.

Ive been wondering why a coalition of bigger youtubers and mid size dont form and make a competitor of some kind, with no feature regressions and only about making real content thats not the equivalent of junk food, there is a few like floatplane and people having a patreon or something but there needs to be something bigger that can have some power behind it

Search on youtube has been useless for a long time. Much easier to search for videos on google, and maybe that's what they want.

I agree that YT's search function is really, really lacking. Especially the advanced search. I disagree about shorts as a format though, I actually like shorts when they're about a minute long and relevant to my interests. When both hit I think of them as trailers, but trailers of things I actually like and might want to continue watching. I do agree that they've been pushed a bit too aggressively though, but they're fairly new so I'm forgiving in this regard.

I think you’ve done an excellent job of articulating what many of us have been feeling here. I wish UA-cam would capitalize on the potential of UA-cam Live. It’s crazy seeing them try to morph into TikTok when they could be feasting on Twitch’s market share.

They failed the whole subscriptions page ages ago too. Can't make lists of your subbed channels with custom names, so you could just choose a list of channels that suits your mood or theme you're feeling to explore today. It's just one list of subbed channels that you can't even sort in any way. It's dead if you have hundreds of channels you've subbed to. I now refrain from subbing to channels cause it'll just cause more of a mess in the sub box. That feels kinda sad. For a creator, it's so much worse. Personally, couldn't care less about short form content. Most stuff I watch is probably nearly 30mins long, watch a ton of hours long podcasts and Warhammer lore stuff and painting videos. The UI in general is horrific. Like why are there three different ways of adding videos to your Watch Later depending on what page you're on in the browser version?

YT took "eat my shorts" a little too literally

The only way this can be solved is by UA-cam creating a stand alone app for shorts. If not, long format creators will start leaving the platform and find some other one that will do that.
